My commitment to you
When you come to my Hand Clinic, I will do my best to diagnose your problem, learn about what you want and help you decide what is best for you. I will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each potential treatment. Although surgical treatment might be needed, wherever possible we try safe and simple non-operative treatments such as therapy and injections.
Who I am
David Warwick is a senior Hand Surgeon in Wessex. He is qualified with the European Diploma of Hand Surgery. He is based at University Hospital Southampton, UK. His teaching, research, and international reputation were rewarded by the University of Southampton with an Honorary Professorship in 2013. His NHS contribution has been rewarded with a Bronze Clinical Excellence award. David was President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2020; in recognition of his contribution to UK hand surgery he was awarded a Doctorate for his work on Dupuytren's Disease.
He became Secretary General of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand in 2022, and is now its President Elect — a senior office in world hand surgery.

Just 5 months before the Rio Olympics, I ruptured the main ligament in my thumb. This was repaired by Professor Warwick; his surgery and the Hand Clinic's rehabilitation team were so meticulous and so tailored to my specific sport that I recovered quickly enough to win a gold medal with our team.
Saw Professor Warwick with what appeared to be a bad case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, causing not only loss of sensation in parts of hand/fingers but also pain up arm into shoulder and neck. I was given immediate reassurance that he could solve the problem with surgery. He drew a very informative diagram which made it incredibly easy to understand what was causing the problem. I was booked for surgery 10 days following the initial appointment which has been incredibly successful…
A few years after receiving successful hand surgery from Mr. Warwick for Dupuytren's contracture I found that my other hand was rapidly succumbing to the same problem... This time he offered the 'alternative' treatment of using Xiapex, an enzyme fasciectomy, a much simpler approach requiring just two short visits... The result was astounding, with the straightening being immediate, and within a few days I was able to use my hand as if I had never had the problem…

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a GP referral to see Professor Warwick?
We ask that patients are generally referred by another medical professional — a GP, physiotherapist, consultant or chiropractor. If you do not have ready access to a referral, we will accept a self-referral.
How much is a consultation?
A new patient consultation is £250 and a follow-up is between £50 and £150. If surgery is needed it is quoted as a fixed rate that includes all costs.
Where does Professor Warwick see patients?
At the Wessex Nuffield Hospital in Southampton, Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester and Arches Physiotherapy in Lymington, plus visiting clinics in Jersey. His NHS practice is at University Hospital Southampton.
Does Professor Warwick treat children?
No. He does not treat children, complex elbows or microsurgical conditions.
Can I use private medical insurance?
